They Have Us Surrounded or I Sold My Ticket To The Opposition
I was put in a position and I did what I had to do. Here's my story this week. The names have been changed to protect the...umm...we'll just say the people involved.
Last Tuesday I got a call from my buddy Jake, who said he had a ticket to the game for $115 if I wanted it. Tickets on StubHub were starting at $100 before fees so I said, "Let's do it." I could have searched a bit and found a better deal, but this way it would be one less thing to worry about, plus I'd get to sit next to people I know. Awesome!...(or so I thought.)
Fast forward to Friday night...I'm working at the local bar when Jake's friend Mike comes up to me and says, "Hey, Jake said that you're looking for tickets to the game this Sunday." to which I replied, "Uh, no. I don't know why he would say that because we talked on Tuesday and he said he had a ticket for me."...
I immediately start a text conversation with Jake:
Now I don't know what happened between the time that he thought he had a ticket and Friday or why he didn't tell me that there wasn't a ticket as soon as he found out, but none of that mattered because I now had to find a ticket and I only had 24 hours to do so.
At this point I have plenty of experience getting a ticket late in the game, but usually I go into said game knowing that I'm waiting. Thinking that I was all set, I passed up on a few opportunities to grab tickets, but your boy has skills and wasn't worried.
I woke up late Saturday morning with a little congestion I picked up from one of the diseased Cubs fans that brought their sickness into Cleveland during the World Series excitement, so I popped some vitamins and Sudafed, grabbed a cup of tea, and started browsing StubHub, NFL TicketExchange, and Facebook. Within minutes, I found a pair of tickets on one of the local Facebook Swap-and-Sell pages; they were asking for face value, or $260 for the pair. These were great seats, but they had been posted four days prior and generated little interest. Jackpot. I offered them $200, they countered with $220, and I was on my way to pick them up an hour later.
Now in my previous post I talked about selling tickets to the opposing team's fans just to make a buck. I seriously tried to sell my extra ticket to a Browns fan. First, I asked Jake's buddy, Mike, who wanted to go, but already made plans. Then, when we got to the game, I was hoping that someone in Jake's group needed a ticket. Not only was there no one to be found, but Jake's wife partied a little too hard on Saturday night and eventually had to "tap out" and head back home so now we had an extra ticket...so I had my ticket posted on NFL TicketExchange which sold for a bit more than I paid and I ended up only spending a total of $80 on my awesome seat.
The person that bought my ticket was a Dallas fan who brought his toddler son to the game. He may be too young to remember it, but what an experience he had.
The William G. Mather steamship was chillin' in the sun.
The sun helped take the sting out of the loss, but the walk was still the same. (Maybe it was this guy's fault that we lost this time...?)

This is probably what my face looked like after my text message exchange with Jake

We may have lost the game, but I caught a Cowboys "fan" drinking from a Browns edition Bud Light can

View from the seats
Ezekiel Elliott fans were all over the place.
I got to share this experience with a first timer from Canada and a Broncos fan who was all about supporting our team. When in Rome, right?
Perhaps it's wishful thinking, but I'd like to have a partner-in-crime that was as passionate about the Browns as these two.
It was a beautiful day to be at the stadium. You couldn't have asked for better weather.
When are the Browns going to win? I would love to see a victory. Maybe Thursday? Maybe next year? Who knows? There are so many questions surrounding the team, but if I worry about them, it'd ruin the journey. A Browns victory would be great, but this has been all about the adventure. It's an excuse to get out of my comfort zone, meet people, and travel.
Find your excuse to do the same and thank me later...
