The Beginning or Welcome To The Show

When was the last time you had a dream?
What have you dreamed of doing? As a kid or as an adult?
When was the last time you set a goal for yourself or your family?

The Plan: Buy an RV or Camper Van and use it to follow the Cleveland Browns around for the entire 2016 football season. EVERY game, home and away. Roughly 5500 miles of travel, 17ish weeks of fun, excitement, adventure, learning, uncomfortable moments, you get the idea.

Is it possible? Absolutely. Do I have any time to waste. Absolutely not, in fact, none of us do. One of my favorite quotes of all time is by Napoleon Hill and it goes, “Don't wait. The time will never be just right.” Amelia Earhart is quoted as saying, “The most effective way to do it, is to do it.” Life is too short or life is not long enough or I don't have enough time or we'll never be able to do this. And one last quote from Henry Ford who said, “Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right.” If we're ever hanging out and I hear you say something like, “Oh I won't be able to do THAT.” I'll say, “Not with that attitude.” And that's the truth.

Why do this now? For starters, the Browns are playing both the AFC and NFC East teams so they don't travel any further west than Nashville, TN.  For a long time I've wanted to follow them for an entire season; you could say it was on my so-called “bucket list”.

Recently, I've been reading The 4-Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferris and I got through part of it awhile back, but I never really completed the exercise where you set your 6-month and 12-month dreamlines. So here I am, writing out five things that I want to have, five things that I want to be, and five things that I want to do, one being follow the Browns around for an entire season. After writing out those fifteen items, you are asked to pick four that would really do it for you at this time. You then write out the total cost of the four, do a little math and figure out your Total Monthly Income (needed to pursue your dreamline) and Total Daily Income, which at this point is around $86 a day, but that included owning a two bedroom house. I said to myself, scratch the house, let's stop paying $1000/month in rent, buy that RV and travel with the Browns for the season and I'll figure out what to do afterwards.

So...here we are. I've never done anything quite like this, but I've done similar things, with most of my “planned moves” having started with just over a month before they were to happen. I have a two month window to find an RV and get it ready to start the journey. Along the way I'll also look to setup some kind of income, touch base with the local Browns Backers chapters, plan some or all of my adventure, and maybe get some sponsors to aid with the trip.

Throughout the next six months I will be documenting my journey to the end of the season, sharing all of the trials and challenges faced, most of the fun times, and even some candid moments.

BTW, I'm taking applications for a travel companion, if you're interested. You must be clean, relatively drug free, and have an adventurous spirit. Driver's license and good understanding of the English language is a plus.

Stay tuned!
